my day of birth is coming up

Well I havent posted on here in awhile... But I kind of miss it. I still check up on blogs that I follow pretty regularly but I have been exploring the other worlds of the internet that are tumblr, pinterest, and good ol trusty twitter. Sometimes I just can't keep up. The reason I am posting on here today is to put out into the world a little list of wishes. I feel like its easier to post rambles, links, ideas, and random stuff on here than it is anywhere else. Its like a secret little corner.
So back to the title of this post... my birthday... here are a few things I would get myself if I had a little extra fundage. Or if anybody need some ideas... here ya go. [A good hangout sesh is always accepted as well, just sayin]

read, read, read

I cant lie, I am a fan of cheesy teen paranormal/fantasy books. What can I say, there is just something about them that intrigues me and always grabs my attention. The love stories are just so dramatic and all of the situations and scenarios are sometimes so out of this world that you cant help but laugh (and/or cry) and keep reading. They are quite entertaining I tell ya! One of the series I have been reading has new book coming out this week! The last one I read of them was about 1 1/2 years ago so I am excited to get back into the world of The Mortal Instruments.



The Mortal Instruments

City of Fallen Angels is the fourth book in the series. I actually thought that they were ending the series with the third book but it looks like its still going so I am very curious to see what happens, there was some crazy stuff in the previous ones that made me read a few pages twice (there were some weird family relations) so I am sure they will continue with the twists and turns.
Its pretty good if you are into that kind of thing. It has all the usuals, angels, demons, vampire, werewolves, ya know, the good stuff.

Jane Eyre

Ah! This movie comes out in the next weekend or two and I think its going to be great! Its like a modern (kind of creepy) twist on an old classic.



I unfortunately never read the book (booo! me) But I have it! and I plan on reading it as soon as I get done w/ Never Let Me Go. For some retarded reason I never read any classics... Catcher in the Rye, Wuthering Heights, A Tale of Two Cities.. Well you get the idea. I have started a collection of some of them though, so as soon as I get some free time... and I dont have any shows to watch... or anything else to do, you can bet I will be all over them.

I think I am the first one to finish the book from our most recent book club meeting.

We chose to read this book because the movie is coming out in March (just in time for B's birthday!) And isnt it better to read the book before the movie? Not that any of us arent familiar w/ this story but it was neat to see some little twists to a classic tale.
I think I will probably give a real "review" over on my other blog, maybe, if Im not too lazy and/or I dont forget.

So when is our next meeting? I think there are already some ideas for our next book and I cant wait. I want to start reading some classics too, since for some reason I seemed to skipped all of them when I was in school.

New books...

Here are a few books that I got for Christmas that I have been too busy drooling over I havent had any time to talk about them.
My favorite one of the bunch is:
The Tattooed Lady: A History
by Amelia Klem Osterud

I thought this book was very intriguing because it gave a history as to why ladies (even back in the 1800's) felt the need to get tattoos. I think its neat to see the comparison of the "trendy" tattoos today to the old-school black and white tattoos of yesterday. It also goes into a lot of the history of tattoos and circus folk/women and how the tales that they would tell of their experiences getting the tattoos. Its really great.


Rock Candy
by Femke Hiemstra

This book is like a little folk tale, it has all sorts of little animals and creatures. It contains a lot of different types of pictures like sketches, ideas, and behind the scenes of her art. Not to mention she reminds me a little like Angelique Houtkamp (her personal style anyway, not artistic style) Its just a sweet little book.

High Fructose Collected Edition Vol 2: Under the Counter Culture

If you know about High-Fructose then you know that anything that comes out by them is going to be great. It got me thinking as to why I dont have a subscription to this great art magazine witch not only features up and coming artists but also highlights the greats like James Jean, Amy sol, Camille Rose Garcia, etc, etc. It is a great collection of unique and alternative art.

Weirdo Noir: Gothic and Dark Lowbrow Art

At first I was a little apprehensive about this book, mostly because the first thought that came to my head was "Hey Im not a weirdo" but I think this book is meant to be a playful collection of different types of lowbrow art. It is great because it gives a timeline of the history of this kind of art and also goes into detail about why some people are inspired by the dark or creepy side of pop culture.

I got these books this weekend and they are super fantastic. I suggest you check em out as well, but only if you like cool art and stuff that is bad ass.
This first one I saw on the internet and then to my surprise they had it at Barnes and Noble and I snatched it up as soon as I saw it!

Lost Constellations/ The Art of Tara McPherson is sweet as well. (which I already knew it would be) I slightly talked about her art before, mostly just how she came to slc. She was super nice though and her pictures have the prettiest pinks, beiges, and greens around.

I have kind of been slacking on reading, but I need to get back into it. Its kind of weird, but its true, I feel better when I'm reading as opposed to watching tv. Even though I dont really think reading a novel about vampires and werewolves (for example) is much different than watching a reality tv show about people acting a fool. Here are some on my summer reading list. Any other suggestions?
